What PrepCMA is

A study guide and a question bank, built to work together

The CMA exam covers a lot of material across two parts. Most candidates need two things to prepare well: a clear explanation of every topic on the syllabus, and enough realistic practice questions to know they've actually learned it. PrepCMA gives you both.

You get a 425-page PDF study guide that walks through the full ICMA curriculum in plain English, and access to an online question bank with more than 4,900 multiple-choice questions organized exactly the same way. You read a chapter, then practice the matching topic. Every question shows you why the correct answer is correct — and why the others are wrong.

Inside the question bank

Realistic practice, one topic at a time

4,900+ MCQs

Every question is multiple-choice, in the same format as the CMA exam.

Full rationales

Each answer includes a written explanation covering the correct choice and the common wrong ones.

Organized by domain and topic

Browse the syllabus by Part → Domain → Topic and drill into whichever area you want to work on.

Four study modes

Practice all questions, only ones you haven't answered, only ones you got wrong, or only the ones you bookmarked.

Progress saved automatically

Your answers, accuracy per topic, and bookmarks stay on your device — pick up where you left off.

Works on any device

Phone, tablet, laptop. No app to install, nothing to sync.

Try a real question

See the question bank before you buy

This is an actual question from the bank, rendered in the same interface you'll use. Answer it — you'll see exactly how rationales are written for every option, not just the correct one.

Part 1·Cost Management
Intermediate

A firm is deciding whether to outsource its distribution function. Which consideration is most relevant to value-chain analysis?

Every one of the 4,900+ questions comes with this level of explanation.

The book meets the app

A real book you can hold — with the question bank one scan away

The companion guide is designed to be printed and bound like a real study book. At the end of every chapter there's a QR code that opens the matching topic in the online question bank. Read the theory on paper, then practice on your phone the moment you're done.

  • 76 chapters, each linked
Every chapter maps 1:1 to a topic in the online question bank.
  • Study offline on paper
Read the theory anywhere, then practice online when you have a few minutes.
  • No app to install
The QR opens the matching questions directly in your browser.

The full syllabus, explained clearly

The companion guide is the reading side of PrepCMA. Every chapter maps 1:1 to a topic in the question bank, so studying and practicing stay in sync.

425 pages, 76 chapters

Covers every domain of Part 1 and Part 2 in the order the ICMA publishes it.

Print-ready PDF

Designed for A4 printing with proper margins. Read on screen or on paper — whichever you prefer.

QR codes on every chapter

Scan the QR at the end of a chapter to jump straight into the matching questions in the online bank.

Table of contents & index

Find any concept quickly. Great for reviewing weak areas before test day.

Inside a chapter

Worked examples on every concept

Each chapter builds theory step by step, then anchors it with a fully worked example — the same style of scenario you'll see on exam day. A QR code at the bottom of every page opens the matching practice questions in the QBank.

How to use it

A simple loop from reading to mastery

1

Read the chapter

Open the PDF and study the topic you're working on — concepts, formulas, worked examples.

2

Scan the QR code

At the end of the chapter, the QR opens the exact matching topic in the online question bank.

3

Practice and review

Answer questions, read the rationale for every one, bookmark anything you want to revisit.

4

Come back to what you missed

Use the 'Only wrong' and 'Bookmarked' modes to review weak areas until they're solid.

Content scope

Aligned with the updated CMA exam

The ICMA refreshed the CMA Learning Outcome Statements starting with the September 2024 testing window — new weightings on technology & analytics in Part 1 and on strategic planning, ESG, and business acumen in Part 2. PrepCMA is written against that current syllabus. Every chapter of the guide and every question in the bank maps to a specific LOS in the version of the blueprint you'll sit for in 2025 and 2026.

PrepCMA is an independent study product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the IMA/ICMA.

Student reviews

What CMA candidates say

4.6/5from 25 students

★★★★★

It exposed gaps I did not know I had

I thought I had budgeting and forecasting under control because I work with them every day. The practice sets quickly showed me where I was relying on routine instead of understanding. Some of the explanations are longer than I expected, but that ended up being one of the strongest parts because they explain why the other choices are wrong, not just why the correct answer is right.

★★★★★

There may actually be too many questions

At first, the size of the question bank felt overwhelming. I had to stop jumping between topics and create a weekly study plan. Once I did that, the volume became a major advantage. I no longer feel like I am memorizing a small set of repeated questions, and I know I will not run out of practice material before exam day.

Daniel K.

Cost Accountant · CMA Part 1 Candidate

★★★★★

Not a quick weekend review guide

The companion guide is much denser than the short summary booklets I had used before. I initially wanted something I could skim in a few days, but the worked explanations made it clear that this is meant to be studied, not just highlighted. It has become the main reference I keep open while working through questions.

Alicia M.

FP&A Analyst · CMA Part 2 Candidate

★★★★

The wrong-answer mode is humbling

I did not enjoy seeing how quickly my missed-question list grew during the first week. Still, reviewing only the questions I got wrong has been far more useful than repeating complete sets and hoping my weak areas improve on their own. It is uncomfortable, but it makes every review session more focused.

Omar H.

Accounting Supervisor · CMA Part 1 Candidate

★★★★★

The distractors are annoyingly convincing

A lot of the wrong answers look reasonable until I work through the logic. That can be frustrating after a long workday, but it is forcing me to read more carefully instead of choosing the first familiar-looking option. The questions feel designed to test judgment, not just recognition.

Priya S.

Finance Manager · CMA Part 2 Candidate

★★★★

More serious than flashy

This is not the kind of platform that tries to turn every study session into a game. The workflow is straightforward: study the topic, answer questions, review the rationale, and return to your mistakes. I expected more bells and whistles, but the simplicity has actually helped me stay focused.

Ethan B.

Internal Auditor · CMA Part 1 Candidate

★★★★★

The QR codes removed my excuses

I assumed the chapter QR codes were a minor feature, but they changed how I study. As soon as I finish a section, the matching practice questions are right there. It is almost inconvenient how easy it is to start practicing, because I can no longer tell myself I will find the correct topic later.

Sofia L.

Management Accountant · CMA Part 1 Candidate

★★★★★

It made my weak areas obvious

I was confident in financial statement analysis because I use it at work. My topic-level performance said otherwise. That was not pleasant, but it gave me a much more honest study plan than reviewing only the areas I already enjoy. The platform makes it difficult to hide from weak domains.

★★★★

Printing the guide is a commitment

I printed and bound the companion guide, and it is not a small stack of paper. On the positive side, it now feels like a proper course book rather than another PDF that disappears into a downloads folder. I use it every day and write notes directly beside the examples.

Nina P.

Corporate Accountant · CMA Part 1 Candidate

★★★★★

The explanations do not let me guess and move on

With other question banks, I sometimes accepted a correct guess and kept going. Here, I usually read the full explanation, including why the alternatives fail. It makes each set take longer, but my notes are becoming much more precise and I am making fewer repeat mistakes.

You still have to do the work

PrepCMA gives me a clear path, but it is not a shortcut that turns the syllabus into a few cheat sheets. At first, that disappointed me. After a month, I appreciate that the material is organized without pretending the exam is easier than it is.

My bookmarked list became a second syllabus

I bookmarked far more questions than I planned. That looked discouraging at first, but the list has become a personalized review set built from the exact concepts that slow me down. It is much more useful than rereading every chapter equally.
